See how it works

The conversation you keep putting off

You know what you want to say. Then the other person pushes back and the words go. Most people who want to practice difficult conversations at work have nobody realistic to practice with, so they rehearse in their head or in front of a mirror, or they wing it. Preroom gives you someone who answers back.

  • You freeze

Rehearse out loud first, with your goal and key facts on screen during the conversation.

  • You back down

The avatar pushes back at the personality and difficulty you choose, up to Tough.

  • You get emotional

Run the same setup again, then raise the difficulty with "Try it harder".

  • Nobody realistic to practice with

The avatar plays your manager, an executive, a colleague, a direct report, HR, a client or a hiring manager.

How it works

To rehearse a conversation with your boss, set it up, have it out loud with the live avatar, read your report and go again. You choose the situation, your role, who you're talking to, their personality and the difficulty.

  1. 1

    Set up the conversation

About a minute. Pick a situation, your role, who you're talking to, their personality and the difficulty. Add a goal, up to three key facts and your own context if you want.

  2. 2

    Have it out loud

Talk with the live avatar in real time, for up to 12 minutes (7 on the trial session). Your scenario summary stays in view, a clock shows how long you've talked and a mic indicator shows who is speaking. You can end at any time.

  3. 3

    Read your report

You get an overall score out of 100, four skill scores with a tip each, your weaknesses and the full transcript, saved to your account.

  4. 4

    Go again

"Practice again" keeps the setup and draws a new hidden concern. "Try it harder" moves up one difficulty.

An avatar that pushes back the way you choose

In Preroom's AI role-play for workplace conversations, you decide how the other person behaves.

Personality
Supportive, Neutral, Skeptical, Defensive or Busy and impatient. A Skeptical counterpart asks for numbers; a Busy one wants the point quickly.
Difficulty
Easy, Realistic or Tough. On Tough, the avatar pushes back on every main point and interrupts long answers.
A hidden concern
The other person carries a concern they won't state up front. It is random by default, or you can choose it, and your report reveals it. Drawing it out is the skill you are practicing.
Stays on the work topic
If the talk drifts, the avatar steers it back to the work conversation.

See exactly how it went

Each session ends with a scored report: an overall score out of 100 and scores out of 10 for clarity, empathy, assertiveness and language, each with a one-sentence summary and a tip.

It also lists your weaknesses and general feedback, reveals the hidden concern and includes the full transcript, in its own tab, with a time on each line. Every report is saved to your account.

What you walk away with

This is what you have after a session. It describes your practice, not what will happen in the real conversation.

  • A rehearsal out loud, not in your head

You've said your points out loud to someone who reacts and pushes back, at the personality and difficulty you chose.

  • Your likely sticking points, found early

You see where you hesitate, back down or ramble, in a session where nothing is at stake.

  • What the other person was really worried about

Your report reveals their hidden concern, so you can check whether you drew it out, and how.

  • An outside view of how you came across

A score and a one-sentence reason for clarity, empathy, assertiveness and language, with one concrete tip for each.

  • Your own words to review

The full transcript, line by line with times, so you can reread exactly what you said and when.

  • A next step for the next attempt

Your weaknesses and feedback name what to change, and "Practice again" or "Try it harder" lets you try it right away.

  • Visible progress over time

Put two sessions of the same situation side by side, and follow your sessions completed, average and best score, practice time and the trend of your last 10 scored sessions.

Why not just use a chatbot?

A general chatbot can role-play if you write the whole prompt yourself. Preroom is AI practice for difficult work conversations: you make a few choices, talk to a live avatar and get a scored report.

Questions

Is this just ChatGPT with a face?

ChatGPT can role-play if you write the prompt. Preroom starts from 25 workplace situations, sets the other person's personality and difficulty, gives them a concern you have to uncover and keeps the conversation on the work topic. Afterward you get scores on four skills, a tip for each and the full transcript.

Will it feel like talking to my boss?

It won't be your boss, and it isn't meant to be. It's a counterpart who reacts: a Skeptical one asks for numbers, a Busy one wants the point quickly, and on Tough it pushes back on every main point and interrupts long answers. That is enough pressure to find out where you freeze before it matters.

What if my situation is too specific?

Pick the closest of the 25 situations, then add your goal, up to three key facts and a short note of context. The avatar works from that setup. It covers workplace conversations only, so personal or family conversations are out of scope.

Can an AI really judge how I did?

Every report shows its reasoning: a one-sentence summary and a tip for each of the four skills, a list of weaknesses and, in the Transcript tab, the full conversation with a time on each line, so you can check each point against what you said. Use it as a second opinion, not a verdict.

Will anyone else see my practice sessions?

Your reports and transcripts are saved to your account so you can review them later. You can read how we handle your data in our privacy policy.

What do I need to use it?

A microphone and English. It works in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on your computer, in Safari on iPhone and in Chrome on Android. Each session lasts up to 12 minutes (the trial session up to 7), and you can end it at any time.
